UPDATE 05/July/2009: I don't think this can replace my HG Maybelline Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner even though it's quite good. One reason is its mechanism in dispensing ink. Until now, I am still shaking the pen like a mad cow. It does release the ink but sometimes I wonder how long will a pen last. I prefer the tradition type - dip, smear, and apply because I am 100% in control of the amount released. Secondly, I think my HG still produces the darkest black colour and also lasts better than this. It comes off wee bit after long hours. I know I am being super choosy but I am in search for a HG replacement so I have to be picky. It's an above average product but not excellent. Get what I mean?
I was so excited when I spotted the little ad dangling on the Maybeline counter when I was browsing through the store. But no matter how I dug at that counter, I couldn't find a pen! So I asked the counter girl if she could help me. She was kind enough to check if there was any left in the storage. And there it was, one last pen and I got it!!! Hallelujah! My regular readers will know why I was so high about a little liquid eyeliner from Maybelline. It is because I have been hunting for a possible replacement for my HG Maybelline Waterrpoof Liquid Eyeliner for the longest time but nothing has ever come close enough. The local Maybelline has discontinued my HG eyeliner for a few years now. I have been getting my supplies overseas and it is bloody sickening! To top it all, my last custom purchase of 5 pens from the US were lost in the mail and I am now down to the last pen in my possession. I can't tell you how desperate I have been!
So I brought my tiny treasure home and immediately set to search for its information on the Net. And I've only found it on Maybelline Taiwan (in traditional Mandarin), Maybelline China (in simplified Mandarin) and also the little announcement from this Sinagporean site. (I seriously checked every single Maybelline mirror sites!) My guess is this product is only available in the Far East for the time being. My gut feeling is that this is going to be yet another Asia Exclusive item...
Maybelline Impact Express Smooth Felt Liner 01 Very Black
Product Description:

- Easy-to-grip body
- Smudge-free and lasts all day - OfferStation Singapore
The Liner
I can only say that it looked promising from what I saw! But I knew that I had to test it out to know the truth...
Put to Test:
I drew a line on my inner arm and in less than few seconds, the very black line dried up! Oh, how I loved the sight of that. I was practically smiling! You have no idea how I hate a liquid eyeliner that doesn't dry up fast! My puffy eyelids will tell you that almost all liquid eyeliners I tried in the past transferred to them immediately after I applied liquid eyeliners. And that's part of the reasons why the good old Maybelline Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner has been working so well for me.
So I left that line on my arm for hours till I showered at night. Upon touching water, it started coming off. What a disappointment! How I wish it's waterproof! Though I had expected this to happen as there was no indication on any part of the pen that it's waterproof, still!!! Anyway, I have taken a photo of the non-waterproof evidence in this following collage. I only did tightlining in that picture and had the eye splashed by water. I guess you can't cry with this on!
Then I did a full face test too. I tightlined as well as lined the upper and lower lash lines. I felt that the pen was rather easy to handle and it could go from ultra thin to super thick in few straight forward strokes. The colour was super black too and I really liked that as it made my eyes popped!
However, I couldn't find a clicker to dispense the ink so I just shook it vigorously when I felt the tip started to dry up. To be honest, I am still not sure if that's the proper way to use this pen even though it seems to be working so far... anyway, there is no extra ink seeping out of the felt tip when I shake it so that's a plus I guess.
The felt tip is spongy and springy unlike the old Maybelline Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner which uses a pointy stick. I had managed to bend some of the old sticks somehow. Therefore, I appreciate the spongy felt tip as it works just like a marker pen. You simply draw the tip along the lines. To make a line thicker and more dramatic, you only need to apply the line over a few times. And since the ink dries up fast, there is no danger of the ink traveling to the lids or well up.
Anther good news is that this eyeliner pen is truly smudge proof (even though it's not waterproof.) It stays on my eyes the whole day till I have it removed. It comes off easily with an oil or eye makeup remover.

Price: 24.90MYR (1.6 g. / 0.06 oz.) = CHEAP!
My Verdict:
I am liking this new liner a lot. It is BLACK, dries fast, effortlessly to apply, precisive results, lasting, easily removed and very cheap. The only down sides so far are: non-waterproof and only one available colour. I have no complaints though as I finally found something uncomplicated that I can work with. I am praying hard that I don't change my mind about the product and it doesn't become another discontinued fatality. And I want it the most to be my new HG eyeliner!
If you are in Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and China, you can easily get this liner in most drugstores now. I do hope Maybelline in other countries carry this products in the future even though I think it's going to be Asia Exclusive...
Well, this is yet another new Intense Gel Liner (released locally and also in many other countries). It looks rather interesting too. I am already thinking to get that Limited Edition Blue, a colour imported from the Japan market to try.Am I crazy?

Ingredients:
As the ingredients was printed on the transparent plastic wrap, I had to take pictures in sections and made them into a collage. Once the wrapper's striped off, all the details were lost. This was the closest thing I could get.

Great review! I have been using NYX's felt tip liner for awhile but this just sounds awesome... too bad it's not available here :(
great review! however, the deal-breaker for me when it comes to buying eyeliner is if it can't stand even a bit of water. my eyes tend to water a lot, and sometimes sweat trickles down to my eye makeup. i'd hate it if i get raccoon eyes in the middle of the day!
my HG eyeliner is MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack. it's completely waterproof (short of very vigorous rubbing). :D love it.
wonderful review!! It is hard finding a great liner that lasts all day, isn't it?! I find that the MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack works the best; doesn't smear off and lasts all day (even if you cry!).
Hi there Jojoba! I used to love the convenience of felt tip liners until my Kate one started to 'stain' my contact lenses for some weird reason! That cured my addiction alright! :P
Anyway, I bought the Maybelline gel liner in Blue and I absolutely love it! It doesn't go on as smooth and doesn't last as long as Stila's Smudgepots or Bobbi Brown's gel, but you can't beat the price of rm39.90! And it comes with a decent nylon (I think!) brush too! Not bad at all! And such a pretty color! You definitely should check it out! :)))
I saw this the other day! I was contemplating on buying this and decided to wait for your review...since it is Maybelline's eyeliner and I know you will get your hands on it. Glad I'm right! XD Now I'm off to check it out!
i'd bought the Limited Blue too... Been comparing Cyber Color Blue Gel Liner with Maybelline's new Limited Blue Gel Liner. Initially, given up on Maybelline as Sasa's SA advices me not to get them and I don't see the long lasting effect during testing it. To my surprise, the next day after I swatched both Cyber Colors & Maybelline's Blue Gel Liner on back of my hand. I'd found that Maybelline's Limited Blue still on my hand although just a little bit stain left. I've rush to local Guardian and grab the 1 last piece of Maybelline's Limited Blue Gel Liner! I never use MAC or Bobbi Brown's gel liner b4, only KATE. Thus I found that Maybelline's Gel Liner is quite a decent gel liner. Maybe the product is new hence it's silky smooth to apply, sometimes smoother than KATE gel liner. It's easy to remove with oil based remover.
wow i love this post, i have been looking for a good liquid eyeliner and your trial-and-error helps so many like me what's good and what's not!
as very much like you when I wore contact lens before LASIK and there was no way I could have worn this liquid liner.
Even as of today, when I was laughing so hard about some joke that my eyes watered and some liner bit just smeared at the corner. But this happens with my HG Maybelline Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner at times as well so I didn't mind. I gotta give that MAC Fluidine another try. I did like Fluidline better than BB's or any other gel liner I have tried so far. but gel liners aren't as friendly as my liquid ones. For some reasons, I just prefer liquid. :)
Girls, thanks for the information on the new LE Blue gel liner from Maybelline. I think I need to dash out and get one to try as it sounds quite nice from your feedbacks! OMG!!! Thank you all!
xisa: I laughed at your reply so hard. you are my true follower for sure as you knew that I would give this a try no matter how. Hugs!
Have you tried MAC penultimate? I hope you find a replacement!
Mykeshia: Thanks for the rec. I have never tried that product but will be checking it out.
