I have been following mywomenstuff closely as site is currently featuring The Lipstick Economy Project : 30 days 30 lipsticks! Each time I saw parisb posting another red lipstick, I got so jealous that I wanted to scratch the lip swatch picture off the screen! I can't have red on my lips!!! I have tried so many in the past and seriously each every single one of them made me look hideous or just like an angry old cow. What the hell? All I can do is to admire luscious red lips on other people's faces!
So that was my problem with red lipsticks and I just slept on it... Then a reader wrote to me about my Pigments Collection. (Nope, not lipstick related at all!) Her question was:
(...Snipped) I read your MAC Pigment post and was surprised that YOU have so much! I thought you didn't like MAC? Could you do some FOTD with your Pigments? I want to get some samples from eBay but I am not sure how to use them. (...Snipped)
Hey, I am a woman and I change my mind all the time! LOL. I didn't like MAC (and still don't like most of its products.) But it doesn't mean that I wipe out the entire MAC gang! I do like its Pigments as I have a weakness for loose eye shadows.
So I said to myself, maybe I could do a series of using Pigments like the way parisb with her 30 lipsticks? But there was no way I could do it every day or else I'd get bored looking at myself! Therefore, I thought that perhaps I could pick out one colour and incorporate it in a FOTD? With my current tight schedule, once weekly seems to be more reasonable than making it a daily task anyway.
Hence, I haven chosen MAC Pigment Sunpepper for my first trial run of Pigment Application post. I hope it's working out right and helps some of you, Pigments newbies. :)
MAC Pigment Sunpepper - Dry Application
This looks quite gritty when it's dry. However, all is solved when you smooth it out. It takes a little effort but seriously not much. I normally take some powder out to a clean mixing plate then dip an eye shadow brush in. I will tap away any excess before applying it onto my eyelids so there are less accidents of powder falling onto my undereye area. Should there be any mistakes, I'd use a cotton swab to correct them immediately. Do not wait till you finish the whole application process before correcting your mistakes as powder may transfer to another area when you move. This takes a little practice and you'd find it's rather easy after a few trials.

MAC Pigment Sunpepper - Wet Application
(Mixed with Make Up For Ever Eye Seal)
Now you can see its silver undertone!
FOTD
In this FOTD, I applied Sunpepper both dry (mid-session) and wet (on the crease). I didn't use anything else. I thought it's easiest to show its colour shifting ability this way. :)
You can see that Sunpepper looks rather different if applied wet. The silver under tone makes it cool. Therefore, it can be easily matched with another cool colour. It's strange to see how a warm reddish colour working so well with silver. I think it's rather unique!
Please ignore the hair fallen onto my eyelid!
And I looked a lot darker in these pictures. Lighting was bad...

That's it for now. I will try to utilize loose eye shadows/Pigments with different application methods in my future posts. If you have any suggestions, please shout out! Thanks.

Wow, I didn't think such a burnt orange color would look good on the lids, but you proved my thoughts wrong! It's so pretty, I think I would prefer the wet version as it brings out the cool undertones. Pigments, or more generally loose eyeshadows, are the bomb. They're so incredibly pigmented and sparkly, mroe than any other pressed es I've come across. I'll have to play with my piggies sometime too! I'm inspired. :)
the colour looks so nice on you! i find i can't use red or dark lipsticks either, cos my i feel my lips are too thin for them. makes me look fierce too.
wow...such wonderful color on the lids! I know you love Pigments!!! and you're right about being a woman who changes her mind! LOL :) thanks for the swatch and I'm sure red looks good on you!!!! probably not just used to it :D
This is so pretty and unique. There was a similar shade in the lancome single eyeshadow, but I can not find it, my mother got it as a gwp long time ago.
Me too!, I can not wear proper reds ( berry-pinks are the closest i can get ), it totally overwhelms my face!
It looks SOOOOOOO much better on you than on me. it makes me look all bruised and swollen. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your cheek color btw! LOVE!
Aww you look so pretty! The pigment is a very unique shade, love how it looks on you.
Hugs :3
wow, this is a very unique shade. Looks great on you!
My normal routine in pigments application is either apply powder before loose eyeshadows or bare face so that I can wipe off the unwanted pigments before foundation. I don't use liquid foundation thus i can always apply eyeshadows before powder foundation.
it looks great on you!! pigments look so nice when applied wet
Thank you all for posting comments. And Syn@3sTh3sI@, I have to try your method some day soon! Sounds like a good idea. :)
