UPDATE 16/May/2009: I replaced a better FOTD for this product. :P
I was running errands in a shopping mall and walked past a Dior counter. Naturally my eyes strayed toward the counter display. Then there it was, the new Ionic Eyes Collection. Of course I had to double back to check it out quickly. I have to say that it was not a waste of time!
I had been quite disappointed in the past few Dior 5-colour eye shadow palette collections. Therefore, I wasn't expecting much from this collection either. It turned out that the new 5 Couleurs Designer All-In-One Artistry Palettes are much to my taste even though they are of gradational scheme (which is more commonly found in Asian brands.) I don't think I had seen Dior with such creation before. I guess there is always a first in everything.
The 2 neutral quints looked quite nice on the display, but what really caught my attention were the green and navy palettes. I was debating hard on which one to acquire (or both!) I eventually decided to get 408 Green Design first.
I skipped that 208 Navy Design basically because my beloved Sephora Kat Von D True Romance Eyeshadow Palette - Beethoven contains quite a few similar shades. Though I knew the Dior version has totally different texture and finish, I wanted to make sure it worked for me before making any further purchase. Further more, there is a cream liner in the palette now and I was not sure if the power products may mess up the cream liner. Lastly, my poor experiences with most cream liners creasing on me also prevented me from getting both...
Let's look at the palettes now.
Dior 5 Couleurs Designer All-In-One Artistry Palette
Ionic Eyes Collection, 2009
We have 208 Navy, 408 Green, 508 Nude Pink and 708 Amber.
008 Smoky is not part of the collection in Malaysia.
NOTE: All Dior 5-Colour Palettes go by numbers. For instance, all Iridescent palettes end with 9 while Designers ends with 8. You don't have to worry about the names being different. So long as the numbers are the same, the palettes will be the same.
The colours of 008 Smoky Design on Dior site are wrong. I think this picture HERE is 008 Smoky Design???
Also, I am not sure if any of the other palettes (or this entire collection) is limited edition. The sales assistant I spoke didn't know. I wasn't aware 408 Green Design is Asia Exclusive till I cam home and searched the Net!

Product Description:
Dior has created 5 COULEURS DESIGNER, an ultra-professional and totally
new version of the mythic 5 COULEURS palette. Five different textures
have been brought together in a single case to create eyeshadow styles
through layering.
1-BASE light, 2-COLOR iridescent, 3-SHADE satinity, 4-SHINE pearlescent,
5-LINER mat represent the 5 essential steps used by professional makeup
artists to draw attention to the eyes and create ultra-graphic eye
makeup looks.
Dior innovation: Pigments are blended into a liquid phase rich in
emollient compounds. As a result, the powders are extraordinary soft,
transparently drap the skin, perfectly bind and allow every layering.
Light yet intense, the four 5-shade palettes created by Tyen are truly
sublime. Resolutely Couture, these four new harmonies have been designed
to resemble the palettes of professional makeup artists: based on a
central color, each palette lets you create customized makeup looks with absolute precision. - Dior
Colour/Texture:
This is how 408 Green Design looks like on my arm. I find it difficult to swatch all 5 Couleurs Designer palettes as they are very sheer on the arm. However, they are well-pigmented on the lids. I think it's probably because there are 2 almost transparent shades (Base 1 & Shine 4) in the palette so they have to work with other colours to show their true identities.

Base 1 - an almost transparent colour loaded with super fine champagne gold shimmers. This texture (Light) feels almost solid butter like.
Colour 2 - a light seaform in satiny metallic finish. This texture (Iridescent) feels similar to what's in the Iridescent quints, slightly wet and creamy feel.
Shadow 3 - a deep dark smoke green in a more muted satin finish. Texture (Satinity) is very smooth but yet firm to the touch.
Shine 4 - a high shine super fine glittery reflects in the colour of transparent seaform. Colour's almost invisible till applied on the lids. Very sparkly! Texture (Pearlescent) feels like Base 1, solid butter!
Liner 5 - a cream liner in muted dark smoke green (almost black). The colour is very similar to Shadow 3 but slightly deeper. Texture (Mat) is creamy and smooth. It's glides on lids easily and holds the colour well. Not sure if it's waterproof but it doesn't smudge nor transfer.
Packaging/Price:
The new palettes are more or less the same as all other Dior 5 Colour palettes. There are slight changes and I have taken pictures to show you.
1. There is a silver stripe along the cover.
2. It has a plastic insert that indicates the purposes of all 5 shades.
3. It includes a soft liner brush which is a bit awkward to use because of the mini handle.
4. It has a diagram on how to utilize the colours.
I feel it's a very much Asian makeup packaging design. You'd see this in Kanebo Lunasol or Shiseido MAQulliage. (I think Asian makeup packaging is all into details!) And now Dior 5-Couleur Designers is catching up too. I have a feeling the Vietnam born Dior cosmetic photographer, Tyne has something to do with this. :)
Hmm, I should not speculate further. All I can say is that I love the packaging details!! Please have a look at my pictures below.

It is too early to say if the powder shadows will mess up the cream liner. But since these eye shadows are not powdery, my guess is not. (I have 2 Shu Uemura eye shadow palettes containing both powder and cream products and they aren't messy at all because the powder products are not powdery.)
The price for this palette is 194MYR or $58USD (according to Temptalia), slightly more than Iridescent ones. It has 4.4 g. / 0.15 oz. of product in total. It's not cheap but it's Dior.
My Verdict:
Love is in the air! That's what I think about this palette. I love how the deep dark green works so well with all the transparent high shine sparkling light ones. They don't look overly done even for daytime. It's the result I wanted to see in Lunasol eye shadows but couldn't. However, what I like the most is the liner! I don't want to name all the cream liners creased on me. But I want to tell you this liner doesn't! I wore it from 5am till 6pm and the liner stayed put for the whole 13 hours!!! Take that!
You might be wondering if the colour payoff is good enough. I say yes. I normally have problems with such gradational colours from other Asian brands but I have no problem with this Dior version. They are not easy colours to swatch so the pictures I posted above may indicate otherwise. Base 1 and Shine 4 are particularly highly emollient so it's difficult to show the colours in the pictures. But because of their shimmer and sparkling characters, they will show on eyelids.
I have not been so excited about Dior eye shadows for a long time and this new collection makes my heart skip. Love it!

Very nice!! Those greens are really gorgeous and much different from ones I already have. I love the colors in the amber and navy quints too.
This post is FAB and REALLY helpful!
Thank you so much for taking the time to swatch, photo and write about all the palettes!
Cosmetic brands should really pay you for awesome in-depth reviews of their babies.
The green is very very pretty on you!!
The green is so pretty. Too bad it's Asia exclusive.
Thanks for all the swatches!
Wow! I'm in love! I wish I had access to these here. Those greens look amazing on you! Thanks for the awesome post!
408 Green Design is beautiful! Goodness Dior has really stepped up their game.
Is this really Asia exclusive only? :(
We'll see, if a similar palette will be released here too, I must get it for sure! ;)
You know what/ I never own any full size dior e/s and I only have those small tester sizes, so reading your review is like first hand experience for me! thanks!
Oh my! I'm just writing about it today too! LOL... I have Nude Pink - haven't dug into it yet but green is still calling my name.
Sounds fantastic. I don't really need any more sparkly shadows, but those dark shades and the cream liner sound tempting! Maybe if I see it in duty-free
That green palette is so tempting *o* Also, the blue one...I am in love...
Btw, that Chanel lipgloss is very pigmented on your lips! But very nice :]
i'm totally jealous of these asia exclusives!
Every time how I watching your review I just amazing your collection!
And by the way, thanks for wishes comment! And you looks as 25 and no more! You're gorgeous!
Thank you girls for feedbacks. I read them all and love them all! :)))
Jess: So far, it is reported that you will not be getting it in Europe. :( I hope it was a wrong piece of information.
Askmewhats: is it because you don't have access to Dior? just wondering...
PariB: It's odd that you picked up Nude Pink as I thought those weren't your colours!!! I recall you said how pink made you look tired and such. and the colours in that palette is rather plum instead od NUDE IMO. :) can't wait for your review though!
xisa: I think that gloss is toooooooo RED on me!!! I don't know what I was thinking to wear that with green eye shadows!!! TRAFFIC LIGHTS!!!
Oh loving it! Why is it only for Asia? Dang it!
I LOVE the green palette - I wish it wasn't an Asia exclusive! Thanks for your great review, I look forward to seeing these beauties at my local counter.
i have been waiting to see this. green was the colour i liked and the colour not available in australia.
we have another variation which is a gray one - so boring.
this colour looks great on you.
OMG I love Love LOVE the palette you got! How do you think I could get this? (I live in the US)
A very throughout review as usual :-)
Totally unfair that the gorgeous green palette is asian exclusive, I would wish that you could buy it in Sweden also. /Linnéa
i love green shadows so much and this is incredible palette for me... it shows up so nice on u and I really cant wait for grab them.. but RM194 indeed a bit steep for me...
I saw these last saturday and didn't have time to swatch them, i did swatch the 2 new iridescents (the blue and lilac and i'm waiting till friday or saturday to get a make over with the lilac) But i'm almost positive we also have the green design (Europe),there were 4 new designer palettes and i did see green :) Gonna check it when i'm getting my make over. And that green look very pretty on you!
Tamara: Could you please let me know if your country (which?) gets the green palette so I can update my review? Thank you so much!
I just got off the phone and no, we don't have the green design hon, they said the amber looks greenish in the lights so that must have been it. We have Smokey/Navy/Nude and Amber. I'm from the Netherlands btw :) Lucky you for having the green design and sorry for the confusion!
