Review/Comparison: L.A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette vs. Arissa Studios Trendy Lip Palette

Prologue (clickable):

I came across L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette when chit-chatting with a member on Makeup Alley. I thought they were very similar to my Arissa Studios Trendy Lip Palette. In order to settle this uncertainty, I asked a dear friend in the US to buy some L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palettes for me! See how much this issue bugged me!

And I bet you know what I did the moment the parcel arrived. :P

L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette

NOTE: I don't know what's the exact name of the product as the site says L. A. Girl USA 6 Color Luscious Lip Palette. I just review them as what's printed on the palettes.

I won't confuse or bore you with individual palette comparison. I went back to read my old post and I confused myself too! HAHAHA! Therefore, I would just do a simple and general comparison so you can get a scope of what's going on. I reckon that's more than enough. I feel like I have been playing scientist too much ever since I started blogging. It's time to put things to a normal human's perspective. :P

L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette vs. Arissa Studios Trendy Lip Palette

1. L. A. Girl comes in a box; Arissa Studios has a plastic wrap.

2. L. A. Girl is bigger than Arissa Studios.

3. L. A. Girl is a light weight cheap-looking plastic palette with poor locking mechanism; Arissa Studios is in a matte rubber like box (similar to NARS palettes but of better material as fingerprints don't stay on it.)

4. Both brands have a viewing window, a mirror and a very good quality lip brush.

5. I will personally call the L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palettes (and those of Arissa Studios) as lip cream as they aren't really lipsticks nor lip glosses. They are all high shine, glossy and creamy. Both brands offer pigmented lip colours. Some of my swatches may not seem so. But in reality, the colour payoff is excellent. Of course, darker and brighter shades are very pigmented but the sheer ones aren't bad either. L. A. Girl lip colours are equally as smooth and comfortable on lips. And they are lasting too. I really enjoy trying them out.

I have to give credit to L. A. Girl website for doing a fabulous job on swatches. They are fairly accurate and I easily avoided many browns which aren't my cup of tea for lip colours. However, if you prefer neutral browns, you have to try some of the ones I skipped. :)

L. A. Girl LP2 Falling In Love

Swatches

L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette LP5 Eternity

Swatches

L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette LP6 Paradise

Swatches

6. The ingredients of L. A. Girl Luscious Lip Palette are exactly the same as Arissa Studios Trendy Lip Palette's. However, no matter how I sniff my LP5 Eternity and LP6 Paradise, I can't detect any scent. But, LP2 Falling in Love smells exactly like my two Arissa Studios Trendy Lip Palettes. This is something I can't explain.

7. L.A. Girl Lip Palette is $7USD for 0.30 oz. /8.7 g. of product while Arissa Studios is $6.49USD for 0.27 oz. / 7.8 g. Please bear in mind these prices are from the respective websites. They are a lot cheaper in retail stores as I was told. The price and the amount of both brands are quite close. I'd say it's just a matter of prefernece.

My Verdict:

I do like L. A. Girl Lip Palettes as the quality of the lip products inside is great because they are identical as my beloved Arissa Studios Trendy Lip Palettes! Duh!

However, even though I like them and there are 3 extra palettes to choose from, I'd pick Arissa Studios over L. A. Girl. This is to do with the packaging. (OK, I am vain.) L. A. Girl looks like some cut-price product you get off a bargain bin and the locking mechanism is bad so it's not easy to open the palette. The lip brush often falls out because of this problem. Arissa Studios is chic and dainty and no problem with the lock aCheck Spellingt all. Besides L. A. Girl palettes are bigger and I prefer small palettes.

I don't know which brand got its supply first but I think they should have the same source. No matter. It only benefits us consumers to have more choices. :)

I know I have changed the way I review products this time but I hope it still helps ya!

PS: As there are too many colours from all the palettes I got, I decided to exclude FOTDs from this post. I may post some in days to come. I reckon it's not as taxing this way. :)

Where did you find Arissa lip palettes in Malaysia? It looks mighty nice in your FOTDs. :D

xisa: You can buy it at http://www.direct2ushop.com/

Though that site is not very updated, it has all the products from Arissa Studios. You can write to them about the specifics, even if it's not listed.

I got mine when I was in KK and some are sold in Penang. I don't know where can you buy them in KL.

I adore Eternity! Falling in Love and Paradise are pretty too, only a bit too pink for me.

Anastacia: Thank you! You are always so sweet!

Beauty Chest: Well, now you can even buy it on cherryculture.com. It is 20% off at the moment. (The original listed price is $8USD.) But I'd see if your neighbourhood has Arissa Studios as someone just scouted some at Fred's for like 2 dollars (or more?) few days ago. Big sale time!

birkinbagbeauty: I don't think they are that pink or that scary. could be the lighting??? I took the pictures indoor with flashlight fully charged and so on. But yes, most people told me they are more interested in Eternity. I guess rose and red are more popular. I am the odd one out! :P

Askmewhats: Thank you for your support on vain packaging. I think in this case, it's not just vain. The L. A. Girl ones is of good quality. It's difficult to open it without having the brush dropped out. And I love that brush!
