Unfortunately, none of the counters allowed me to take pictures of the actual products. So the only thing I could do was grabbing the swatches on myself. (Hey, they couldn't say no as that's my arm that I photographed!) Maybe I'd pop by my usual Shiseido counter to see if I could get some pictures of these goodies... But these will have do for now...
OK, since that's all settled, please read on. :)
Shiseido MAQULLIAGE Jewelling Palettes, Christmas 2008
Designed by Christopher Kane. Each contains 4 shimmery powder eye shadows and a highlighter.
Shiseido MAQUILLAGE Dramatical Gel Liner - Packaging
Packaging/Price:
I am doing a combined review of the palettes and the gel liner because that's how they are sold in Malaysia. The set comes with a makeup pouch (which I am not very fond of.) Each set is 213MYR / 61.0219USD.
OK, I know a regular MAQUILLAGE eye shadow quad is 112MYR and gel liner is 75MYR. So that means, without the highlighter and the pouch, we should pay 187MYR for the eye shadows and gel liner combined. Er, so the highlighter and the pouch cost 26MYR? Certainly not a bad deal if you want the highlighter and the pouch... Personally, I'd rather have the option of getting individual items. And that's what you can do if you check other online shopping sites. I am sure you can get even better deals than our deceiving package deal...
I have no complaints about the beautiful design of the palettes. The gold is very striking while the blue is mysterious. I prefer the blue. It just feels right! You will have to assemble the eye shadows and highlighter to complete the palette. I am not sure why the eye shadows and highlighters are removable but that's how they are.
MAQUILLAGE Gel Liner has the best packaging among all the gel liners I have tried. I like the brush and the heavy glass container with the lovely cap. It's worth the $$$ to buy the gel liner for just the brush alone even if you don't like the liner because the brush feels very nice and looks elegant. :P
Colour/Texture:
Palette #10 Nobel Glamorous is warm. It contains eye shadows of creamy white, yellow gold, khaki, and plum. The highlighter is light vanilla. Dramatical Gel Liner RD 632 is a shimmery plum. The whole set will surely work very well. Here are the swatches:

Now this is the set that I was really interested in. The moment I looked at it, I knew it was very similar to Kanebo Coffret D'Or 3D Lighting Eyes Palette 03 that I really wanted a little while back. This palette contains eye shadows of silvery white, light blue, gray taupe and navy blue. The highlighter is lilac. The Dramatical Gel Liner GY831 is a most amazing sparkling blue gray. Here are the swatches:

Now please have a look at this following palette... Honestly, I prefer Kanebo Coffret D'Or 03 for its slightly warmer tone, extra smoothness and shimmers. But most importantly, the extra special dark blue in the Kanebo palette.
Kanebo Coffret D'Or 3D Lighting Eyes Palette 03 (review)
The texture of the eye shadows is fabulous. I had tried Shiseido MAQUILLAGE Eye Shadow Singles when the brand was newly launched. And I have to say its eye shadows are far better than Shiseido The Makeup (too powdery and short on pigmentation) and Shiseido PN (which MAQUILLAGE replaced and was much too sheer in comparison). The MAQUILLAGE eye shadows is really silky and colour payoff is decent. I'd say for this line, you have to aim for its darker shade as lighter ones sometimes show up too similar on the skin even though they look different. Anyway, all the eye shadows are of good quality in both palettes. All colours are nicely picked as a set but they aren't that unique and can be duped easily.
The one item that I am not fond of is the highlighter. I am not too worried about the colours but its texture is less than desired. The shimmer sparkles are just over-spray (I think) as when I tried them on, there weren't many left. And the highlighter is a lot grittier compared to the eye shadows. I could feel the little lumps when I tried them. NOT cool!
The best product from this set is the Dramatical Gel Liner in my opinion. Both colours from either set are gorgeous - well pigmented deep, deep, deep metallic colours. Sparkling outspoken for the blue and subtle shimmery girly for the plum. However, I don't think its texture is as smooth as MAC or Bobbi Brown. Maybe about the same texture of Kanebo Kate Gel Liner, give and take...
My Verdict:
I am very impressed by this collection. It's one of the better ones I have seen so far. Shiseido MAQUILLAGE had released Christmas Collections in the past but this was the only one grabbed my attention. I can't even remember what the previous ones looked like!
I had been window shopping a lot during my 3-day's stay and I can tell you this collection had a deeper impact on me than Chanel Spring Collection 2009. If it wasn't sold as a set, I'd get the Dramatical Gel Liner GY831 on the spot as that was my favourite item of all, even though I am more of a liquid liner person.
If you like what you saw above, try to score the products separately online. I know they are sold separately. Here is an awesome reviewed done by Kathy who is the Japanese makeup guru. Please click here. She owns both sets (except the plum gel liner) and you can see the real products. Don't miss out her excellent review!
My Colouring:
MUFE Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream #4, Lift Concealer #3, Duo Mat Powder Foundation #202, Liquid Lift Foundation #2, Clarins Instant Smooth Foundation #1.5, Pupa Professionals Triple Action Powder Foundation #02 (when tanned)
Light Asian skin (obvious brown spots on cheekbones, slightly dry & doesn't break out easily), dark brown eyes, jet black hair, medium pigmented lips.

I wanted these when I first saw it on one of the beauty blogs. The case caught my eye, and I really liked the blue shadows. But then Paris (and now you) said that this is sold as a set in Malaysia, which I think is just plain silly. No, scratch that, it's actually very smart of them to sell it like that because then people would have to spend a whole lot more money for the rest of the items they don't need!
Again, I think that the counter ladies not allowing you to take photographs of the products are plain STUPID. Either they're stupid, or the policy which tells them to prohibit people to take photos of products are stupid (I reckon it's the latter). It's free advertisement, and they wouldn't even take it. Talk about narrow minded.
I never really got the chance to really take notes on collections for Shiseido...because I doubt we even have that collection here. Looking at your swatches, they ARE similar but you're right, I love the darker blue color from kanebo.>SO PRETTY!
I do love my Maquillage palette! I have 20. You're so right, the texture is awesome. I love their gel liner too! :]
I like the blue palette and liner!! The colors look so beautiful and smooth!! :)
I also hate the no photo policy!! >.<
Jojoba please do a FOTD with this???
Tine: You are so right about that we are beling fooled around with the package deal. And the no photograpy policy is mainly to do with copyright I think. So we can just wrok around it.
Askmewhats: I would think that you'd have this line/collection there since you are in Asia! Weird...
fuzkittie: That's an impressive collection you have in MQ! I don't have any... :)
Jenn: Glad I am not the only one thinking the no-photography policy strange. They could really use us to spread the words...
Glow Chase: Girl, I don't have any of these products! I just swatched them and played with them at different counters. I didn't want to buy the sets as I didn't like the highlighters. If sold separately, I'd grab the blue liner. So no FOTD unfortunately. Perhaps, Fuzkittie can do it. :)
Oi Jojoba, I have been trying to avoid buying the 10 Noble Glamorous, even after all the raves online, but I am really afraid that your review pushed me into buying it...:D
birkinbagbeauty: I am not a kanebo person but i really think kanebo version is better. (Does this kill your lemming?) :P
I was just thinking about these products too. I bought the #20 black palette and the grey gel e/l.
would you use the grey gel e/l with that palette?
evie: gray liner should be ideal! :)
