Review: Christian Dior Impression Cuir Leather Couture For The Eyes, Fall 2008

If you are not reading this on mymakeupreviews.blogspot.com or in a feed reader, this site has stolen my content.

I decided to do separate reviews on some of the Dior Fall Collection 2008 as there are many things I have to say.

Dior Impression Cuir Leather Couture For The Eyes

What it is:
"A trio of pearly, chocolate-hued eyeshadows, artfully stamped with this season's popular croc pattern."

I think the description above is quite true. The eye shadows are of pearl finish. NOT metallic. The "shimmers" are laced into the shadows so you can see shimmery particles on your skin. (IF you are sensitive enough, I bet you can FEEL the shimmers too as they are rather coarse.)

I am not so sure about the "popular croc patter"... I've already gotten goose bumps just by looking at the picture online and it was worse when I saw this palette in person. A lot worse when I touched it. YUCK!

What it does:
"Give your lids a luminous glow with Dior's new eyeshadows that are etched with a cool, croc pattern. The base color is slightly raised in the pan to indicate its "primal" importance to any look, from soft to smoky. Create more drama by shading the balls of the lids with the rich mocha or dark chocolate shades. These shadows are silky, feather-soft, and easy to blend."

What a load of crap!!! Well, the eye shadows are definitely NOT silky, NOT feather-soft, NOT easy to blend!

They are a cluster of coarse muddy colours on. And they are awfully sheer! I had to layer each colour 5 times in order to make them show up properly on my skin. And what a bunch of ugly browns they are! They do look nice individually but once placed side by side, I really don't know what to say. Please look at the swatches below:

HOW UGLY CAN THEY BE?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The description of each colour was adopted from Sephora. I thought they were rather accurate but only the shimmers are "separated" from the colours, which is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to eye shadows. I find this type of eye shadows impossible to be blended properly and very harsh on the lids.

I rest my case. This is definitely not worth 55USD! It's a limited edition eye shadow palette made by Dior and that's about it. The reason why it's selling at such high price tag is "It's a Dior." But I'd take my money to a Wet n Wild or Kanebo Kate for a similar palette at a much lower price and much better quality too.

Shame on Dior making such crappy product. For the fall collection, invest your money in the Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow Iridescent Leather 539 if you are looking for an earthy tone eye shadow palette. That's money wisely spent. This palette goes into my "Lemming Killer (NOT-SO-GOOD Products)" category immediately.

My Colouring:
MUFE Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream #4, Duo Mat Powder Foundation #202, Liquid Lift Foundation #2, light skinned Asian (Chinese), dark brown eyes, long black hair (mostly straight with some wavy bits), slightly dry facial skin that hardly breaks out, medium pigmented lips that are chapped easily.

*giggles* that eyeshadow gives me the creeps! Like that Chanel sequin thing from a couple of years back.

parisb: I hated that too.... it was an eye torture. By the way, I forgot to mention that your skin tone is a lot lighter than me now (after I saw your most recent picture). No wonder we can't use similar colours anymore. :P

Yikes! I saw a few swatches on makeupandbeautyblog and they looked pretty... but now that I saw your review, stating the e/s is pretty coarse and sheer, I don't feel so excited about this palette =/

Hahah! I was so disappointed as well when I saw this is Dior's "main" fall item... :[ I love Dior's makeup line, and I love the 5-color shadow for this season, but man, I totally agree with you about how ugly this is. I'm not crazy about the pattern as well.

vitoria: maybe you ought to try it out in person to see if it's a right product for you. I am not very light so this really look dirty on me. _

fuzkittie: I think you and I have similar skin tone so maybe that's why this palette looks ugly on us. And I didn't like the pattern because it gave me goose bumps!
