Review: Chanel Exceptionnel De Chanel Intense Volume And Curl Mascara (No. 10 Smoky Noir)

If you are not reading this on mymakeupreviews.blogspot.com or in a feed reader, this site has stolen my content.

Nothing on the eye:

NOTE: Application was bad so the result doesn't look very good. It was my own fault. I am much better at using this mascara now.

I bought this mascara the day before I left for my long weekend away in Kota Kinabalu. I thought I'd just try it out during my drip. Ha! I was so courageous as I only brought this with me. (Well, that was because I forgot to bring my Anna Sui Mascara Primer...) It turned out that this mascara is as good as it gets, seriously!

Chanel Exceptionnel De Chanel Intense Volume And Curl Mascara (No. 10 Smoky Noir)

**This product is on the Chanel Asia site (please click the link above) but the pictures won't show on my screen for some reason. I was told that it should reach other parts of the world soon. But that was hearsay and I can't guarantee it.

Colours/Texture:
There are 4 shades to choose from - black, brown, blue and purple. All of which are very straight forward pigmented colours. I was very tempted by that deep blue but I knew my ultra black lashes probably wouldn't get any benefit from it so I passed. But if you have light coloured lashes, that blue is a GORGEOUS colour to consider.

This mascara has the creamy consistency of toothpaste in my. It coats lashes very well and I'd strongly suggest NOT using more than 3 coats or else your lashes will appear quite fake. (I learned this the hard way!) So far, I have not experienced with any flakes or fall-outs. But, my lashes had some lumps when I applied too much of it and I had to comb my lashes afterwards, which was something I almost never do.

The mascara adds excellent volume, extends good length and most importantly, it holds up lashes very well. I didn't have any primer for the past few days and my short and stubby lashes stayed curled for the whole day till I removed it. It delivers what it advertised so I say, thumbs up!

It is not very difficult to remove this mascara either. I only had some extra virgin olive oil with me and it took little soak and about 3 wipes and they were off my lashes. Best part is that my lashes didn't fall off!

Packaging/Price:
The mascara comes in a sleek black tube. When taken out, it makes a "POP" sound as its brush fits snugly in the tube. Therefore, the mascara cream is sealed up tightly. I assume only little air goes into the tube this way.

The brush has 2 types of bristles, rotating rows of short and dense bristles for volume and rows of sparse long bristles for lengthening and strength. It took me some time to get used to the brush as I rolled it from the bottom of my lashes to the tip like how the makeup assistant demonstrated. Eventually I got used to it and didn't find it cumbersome.

The brush is made of flexible rubber like Inimitable Mascara. I particularly like that for controlling the amount of mascara dispensed from the tube.

The price is NOT very attractive... I got it for 102MYR/31.3314 USD a tube, the most I'd ever spent on mascara. However, it works wonderfully so I have no regrets. Knowing it's a Chanel, I have prepared myself for the high price tag.

My Experience:
I say this is one mascara to keep! NOT just to try but to keep! I have already have my HG Anna Sui Super Mascara DX Long Lash. But this is something else. It adds extra volume and holds curls like no others (with a primer too!) It is NOT waterproof but smudge proof and sure enough I never once got raccoon eyes when I wore this. Mind you, I live in a tropical country too. The only gripe I have is its price. Grrr... It's Chanel so I know it's going to be expensive... I am not sure if this will replace my Anna Sui but I think I am keep both side by side as I really like both.

Do try it if it's released in your area!

I gave up on mascara long ago. It's clumpy and messy. I swear by Xtreme Lashes semi permanent eyelash extensions. My lashes are always long and thick. I even stopped wearing eyeliner. I strongly reccommend it.

You had me till the "flexible" brush. I had a Maybelline one that was like that and I kept poking my eye lol. I love the idea of a flexible brush, but the brush and I just don't get along. Thanks for the great review!

melanie, the flexible brush is quite all right. it only helps controlling the amount dispensed but it doesn't move about when applying at all. you have to BEND it to make it move around. it doesn't bounce if that was your concern.

also, I didn't apply the mascara properly so the lashes looked messy but I thought the pictures do demonstrate how the mascara works. I, for one, never applies mascara well! *_*

anonymous: my sis-in-law tried lash extension once and it lasted 3 months and she did looked great. the lashes looked unnatural for the first few days but they were ok afterwards.

i wanted to try it but i had no guts then i just forgot about it. perhaps now i really reconsider this. thanks for posting!

I love the idea!!! Even though it is only seeds, that make the difference, I love that when you are done, it can be useful in other ways.
