Review: BeneFit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner - #11 Skinny Jeans

If you are not reading this on mymakeupreviews.blogspot.com or in a feed reader, this site has stolen my content.

UPDATE 22/October/2008:
I just purchcased Clarins Colour Quartet For Eyes #50 So Chic and the 3rd colour looks a lot like BeneFit Skinny Jeans but much lighter.

UPDATE 14/July/2008:
Couple of people mailed me saying that Skinny Jeans has no green in it at all. And thus I have tested it along with Lancome Erika F. side by side under daylight without artificial lighting. Indeed, Erika F. has OBVIOUS green while Skinny Jeans has little (almost unseen).
I apologize for misleading!!!

Pictures taken under overcast daylight (after the rain and it was cloudy.) I put my arm next to the window.

I had been eyeing on BeneFit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner since BeneFit was introduced to Malaysia. I kept postponing trying them out because BeneFit is overpriced here and I was afraid of trying out CREAM shadow. The only cream shadow that hadn't caused any problem for me was Shiseido The Makeup Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow. I was such a chicken that I just dared not to take the plunge.

Then paris offered me the ride of shopping on BeneFit site (so we could have free shipping and handling!) and I just had to Skinny Jeans on my list as I had read so much rave about this shade. (And it seemed to be out of stock very often!)

I tried it on and it was an instant love! I am very sure this will not be my last BeneFit cream shadow. My wallet is going to be thinner soon...

BeneFit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner

Product Description:

The Love Your Look "makeup to match your lifestyle" collection makes it easy to choose your perfect eyeshadow shades...shop The Lana Look light neutral shades, The Gabbi Look medium neutral shades, and The Betty Look deep neutral shades." -
BeneFit Cosmetics

Picture of the shadow on my eye was taken 14 hours after it was applied. NO crease! NONE!

Colour/Texture:
Skinny Jeans is described as "pretty pewter" on Sephora. I know that doesn't explain much about the shade. It is kind of perter all right but I feel there is a slight hint of green and gun metal gray in it. And it reminds me of my beloved Lancome Erika F. I decided to swatch them side by side and sure enough, they are almost identical but Erika F. has a lot more green. So the two colours are NOT THE SAME! Maybe it's my age, I actually prefer Skinny Jeans's soft metallic shine instead of Erika F.'s loud sparkles. (And I can't believe I am saying so as I had always been praising about Eirka F. all the time!) I had always thought Skinny Jean was a "metallic gray" when swatched in the store. But no, it is a lot more complicated that a straight shimmery gray under natural lighting. I wish I had discovered this sooner!

The texture is out of the world SMOOTH!!! Is there any other better words to describe its ultra silky and buttery texture? I don't know. I just know its texture is even better than my HG Shiseido The Makeup Hydro-Powder Eye Shadow. I say so because it didn't budge one tiny bit after wearing it for 14 hours straight without a base, without any other colour underneath. (*The picture shown above was taken it's worn for 14 hours. You can see the Make Up For Ever Waterproof Lengthening Mascara has come off a lot and some bits of the black mascara went onto the under eye area. But the Skinny Jeans not only survived but was well alive!) This texture is what I had been searching for in cream shadow. I can't tell you how many types of cream shadow I had tried in the past and eventually settled with Shiseido's. But BeneFit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner has just changed it. I am definitely getting more shades!

Packaging/Price:
The cream shadow comes in a heavy clear glass jar with a black plastic top that has the design of some white birds. (Please refer to the picture above.)

The dimension of the jar is slightly bigger but thinner than Shiseido's. The content is less compared to Shiseido's. (BeneFit: 4.5g./0.16oz. vs. Shiseido 6g./0.21oz.) It is sold for 18USD on Sephora and 19USD on BeneFit so it's average priced in the USA. (It is 85MYR/26.3146 USD in Malaysia. We are definitely paying too much!)

Ingredients:
cyclopentasiloxane, isododecane, polyethylene, polymethylmethacrylate, dimethicoe, disteardimonium hectorite, propylene carnonate, [+/-: titanium dioxide (CI 77891), tin oxide, iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), carmine (CI 75470), bismuth oxychloride (CI 77163)].

My Colouring:
MUFE Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream #4, MUFE Liquid Lift Foundation #2, Chanel Blanc Essential Light Reflecting Whitening Powder Foundation SPF25 PA+++ #30, Shu Uemura Velvet Perfect Lasting Powder Foundation SPF17, PA++ #774/#574, Chanel Teint Innocent Foundation SPF 12 #20, MUFE Duo Mat Powder Foundation #202, dark brown eyes, black hair

Great review! I've been wanting a good cream shadow forever but have a problem with creasing because I have a hooded eye. I'm going to buy a few of these based on your experience.

heather: Thanks for reading my review. I'd suggest you trying out one shadow first instead of getting a bunch just in case it doesn't work for you. (TOUCH WOOD!) Good luck and please do let me know if how you like it when you try.

Haven't tried these yet but excited to now since your review.
BTW, have you checked out the ones that are being discontinued on benefit's site? They are discounted!

wow, great review! I went to check them out yesterday (as hydropowders are my HG and you said you liked these even better). But too bad I had to smell it :( Is it just me or does it have a sent? But anyways, you did a really good job reviewing it. You're good at not being bias!

Anonymous: thank you very much for the reply & compliments.

OK, I smelt, smelt and smelt both Shisedio HP and BeneFit Creaseless right up to my nose! Where is the smell? I couldn't smell a thing... I checked the ingredients agaian and there is no indication of any fragrance added. Could it be an old tester that you smelt? I honestly didn't smell a thing.

btw, I uploaded pictures of swatches on Erika F. and Skinny Jeans side by side. They really do look similar to me!

I give up... LOL

Thanks for the comparison to Erika F! That was extremely helpful, as I have wanted Erika F for awhile. After looking at the swatches, I realize that it is too greenish for my taste and Skinny Jeans is really more along the lines of what I am looking for (and easier for me to find as well!)

Thank you!

melanie,

you are most welcome. but please bare in mind that many people say that Erika F. and Skinny Jeans are totally different.

As I am light skinned Asian so my skin tone is a bit ashy and yellow so the two shadows show up on me roughly the same. But since you try to avoid green, then Skinny Jeans is definitely a right choice compared to Erika F. which is quite green.

Skinny Jeans looks awesome on your eye lid! is that just a single swap?

prettybeautiful: it's 2 coats on my skin. it's very pigmented as it's a cream shadow.
