Review: Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2008 Collection

If you are not reading this on mymakeupreviews.blogspot.com or in a feed reader, this site has stolen my content.

As there are many items, I made a collage so it’s easier to see the individual items.

Palette Pop Collector Powder for Face & Cheeks (limited Edition):

This is a palette with a pale pink face powder with some shimmers (almost unseen). There are 3 eye shadow colours: 1 light pink (slightly shimmery but also almost invisiable), one matte MUDDY brown, and one matte orange. I don’t think the combination work well as a combo. And the brown is really UGLY! The texture is only so so. It’s not very finely milled but neither was it chulky.
I don’t know why but the “LOVE” was not imprinted from 2 testers I tried at counter. The word “LOVE” was only printed on the plastic insert. Not sure if ours is different from other countries but the pictures I have seen so far all seem to indicate that “LOVE” is part of the palette. This is extremely weird. I will update on this once I get more information.

Pop Stick Blush (Limited Edition):
N° 1 Vanilla / Chocolate,
N° 2 Strawberry / Raspberry,
N° 3 Peach / Blackcurrant

This is one of the better products from this collection. The blush is very smooth and satiny. Both #1 (too brown) and #3 (too dark and muddy) were not for me. #2 was a workable shade for my skin tone. However, I do think this requires advanced application skills because the 2 shades have to be blended properly or else there will be streaks on cheeks!

Eye Colour Touch Water-Resisant Eyeshadow (Limited Edition):N° 1 Golden Coral – tappears to be a beige on my skin.
N° 2 Steel Blue (no swatch found) – a blue gray.
N° 3 Golden Jade (no swatch found) – a yellow under toned olive green.
N° 4 Glazed Brown – a deep dark brown.

These are cream eye shadows. All colours are matte. I thought the combination looked great on the model but in real life, I felt they are difficult to work with. Just like the Pop Stick Blush, the texture is smooth and silky. The packaging is ingenious. The pen design is fantastic as the brush gives precise and effortless application. I hope YSL releases more shades in the future. I am definitely interested.

French Manicure / 2 Pens Kit:

Now this is the kind of nail polish I would rush to buy! The packaging design is the same as Eye Colour Touch Water-Resisant Eyeshadow so it’s really easy to apply. This will be great for traveling. And the colours dry up fast. Since this is not a limited edition, I’d be watching out for more shades in the future. The 2 pale pink and white colours aren’t my cup of tea, unfortunately. They give even and satin finish not as shiny as most other brands.

Mascara Volume Infini Curl in N° 6 Infinite Petrol-Blue

*I can’t commend on this product as I never try mascara at any counter. But the colour is a gorgeous deep blue. However, I am not sure if it’d show up on my very black lashes though.

Ombres Duolumieres:
N° 13 Golden Sand / Brown Earth
N° 15 Shimmering Quartz / Deep Amethyst

These are eye shadow dous in new packaging. They are the major disappointment in this collection. N13 is just a boring nude and a dark brown while #15 is a repeat of an old combo. (I am almost certain on this!) *Please refer to the picture attached above. If you like pink and purple and you don’t have the old YSL Eye Shadow Duo #39, this #15 is a good choice. All 4 shades are lightly shimmered. But the shimmers are barely visiable once applied. The pigmentation isn’t very strong but buildable. YSL Eye Shadows are hit and miss. Personally, I gave these two a thumb down because of the sheer colours and faint shimmers. (Let alone recycled colours!)

Fard a Levres Rouge Pur Lipstick:
N° 138 Pink Orchid
N° 139 Red Pomegranate

As usual, YSL lip products are THE stars and these are no exception. The texture is creamy and colours are well pigmented. The two shades are beautiful. The colours are true to their description. Both are warm and showy but not over the top bright.

Rouge Pure Shine Sheer Lipstick SPF 15:
N° 28 Pink Sorbet
– sheer shimmery medium pink
N° 29 Frozen Mocha – very pale brown with strong silver shimmers

I LOVE these 2 colours! #28 is more a every day colour with a touch of shimmers. That #29 is a much better version than my #18 (shown in the picture attached) on me as #18 is a lot darker when applied while #29 is so sheer even though they look almost the same in the tubes. I love the silvery shimmers as well. I think it’s just unique and gorgeous. Texture is over the top EXCELLENT! Silky, shimmery, moisturizing and sheer, all of which are what I love in a lip product. These are my HG lipsticks and I may be getting these 2 shades! (I am trying to find an excuse for more lipsticks!)

Golden Gloss:
N°12 Golden Cinnamon
N°13 Golden Nude

If you are into glosses, you just can’t miss out YSL Golden Glosses. They are highly shimmery because of the 24K gold shimmers in them. They stay on well but not sticky. Colours are well pigmented. #12 is the gloss version of rouge Pure Shine #29, a sheer brown with extra gold touch. #13 reminds me of Bobbi Brown Stone Washed Nude Lip Gloss but with gold shimmers instead of silvery. Both are good neutral, every day shades.

Argh, do I need more lip products??? Maybe caving in soon…
